Honda's HR-V vehicle has been named the most reliable 4 x 4 available on the UK market.
Consumer warranty firm Warranty Direct analysed the performance of 16,000 three- to eight-year-old 4 x 4s and sports utility vehicles to determine the best-performing models.
The firm found that Honda's HR-V car, produced between 1998 and 2006, was the market leader as only three in 100 recorded a fault within the last 12 months. Suzuki's Grand Vitara was named the second-most reliable.
Duncan McClure Fisher of Warranty Direct claimed that the study highlights how larger cars fitted with 4 x 4 tyres can be reliable and economical.
He said: "Modern 4 x 4s are a far cry from the noisy and uncomfortable off-roaders of the past. A four-wheel-drive vehicle is most definitely the transport of choice for any motorist during our cold months, particularly judging by our last few winters."
Japanese and Korean manufacturers, including Mitsubishi and Kia, dominated the list of the most reliable 4 x 4s.
