French tyre manufacturer Michelin is set to start work on its first Indian plant next year, according to a company executive.
In an interview with the Press Trust of India, B Kumar, Michelin India's national sales manager, truck and bus division, revealed that construction on the Chennai site will begin by November 2012.
"The plant will have an initial capacity of three million units (per annum)," he told the news provider.
Michelin is planning to hire around 1,500 staff overall to work in the plant, with Mr Kumar confirming the recruitment process has already begun.
"We have already hired around 500 employees for the plant and plan to hire more soon," he added.
The facility, which is based in the Thiruvallur district, is set to have a production capacity of around 20 million rubber tyres per annum, although the company is yet to offer a timeframe on when this output level would be achieved.
