Michelin reaffirms “commitment” to EU tyres rules

12th June 2012

Michelin has given its backing to the introduction of the new compound labelling system across the European Union (EU) after revealing its new tyres range will fit into the system.

Under the plans, in the coming months, tyres will be assessed for wet grip, external rolling noise and fuel efficiency, with a grade provided by the manufacturer for each.

"Michelin supports the introduction of the new European tyre label, which is designed to provide consumers with practical information about three important tyre performance parameters," a statement read.

The company reaffirmed its commitment to the new principles by unveiling details of its latest summer tyre ranges, which have achieved the top A rating in wet grip conditions.

This rating will apply to the new 15 and 16 inch Michelin Energy Saver + tyre range and the Michelin Primacy 3 range along with the Michelin Pilot Super Sport and Pilot Sport 3 designs.

In addition to this, the firm has committed itself to providing a B rating for fuel efficiency in its Michelin Energy Saver + range with the Michelin Primary 3 tyres offering a fuel efficiency rating of C.

Meanwhile in terms of noise, the newer Energy Saver + and Primacy 3 ranges will comply with the current limits on exterior rolling noise as standard.

The company hope that these new tyres will be seen in "more than just ratings" with each compound bringing an "excellent overall balance of performance."
