Tyre manufacturer Michelin looks set to show off its innovative Active Wheel technology, alongside a variety of mobility-related products, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The new automobile system will feature in the Festival of Speed Tech tent, which has been set up to showcase a "step into the automotive future" with various concept cars and technologies set to debut as part of the environmentally friendly focused event.
A range of electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids and range extenders will be on display alongside a raft of alternative fuel automobiles.
The Michelin Active Wheel is a standard wheel with a pair of electric motors, with one responsible for driving and braking the wheel while the other is responsible for an active suspension system.
Powered by a battery or fuel cell, the new wheel could one day replace all of the traditional engine features including gearboxes, transmission and suspension systems.
Weighing 42 kg each, and featuring a 30 kilowatt water-cooled drive motor, the new designs represent an innovative lightweight alterative which could see motorists reduce costs on MOT testing and other day to day engine maintenance expenses.
The Goodwood Festival begins on June 28th.
