A transport company based in Kelso has achieved a record mileage on a set of Michelin tyres, and yet believes it can stretch the feat even further.
Olivers Transport, from Eccles, detailed how one of its Scania 6×2 twin-steer tractor units was able to clock up 220,000km with seven millimetres of tread still remaining on its Michelin 315/80 R 22.5 X MultiWay 3D XZE steer tyres.
Although an incredible achievement in its own right, the general haulage firm is confident that the Michelin tyres can reach at least 270,000km before the products will need to be replaced to conform to UK road laws.
This number would be 80,000km more than the previous generation of Michelin XZE2+ steer tyres managed, as well as 100,000km more than a competitor brand's products achieved when recently tested on the fleet.
Kevin Hawker, a fleet engineer at Olivers Transport, commented: "The mileage we've seen from the X MultiWay 3D tyres is incredible and we still have a significant amount of tread remaining."
ATS Euromaster has a wide range of Michelin tyres in stock which are designed to go the distance.
