Optimising pressure extends tyre life, Michelin states

20th November 2012

Michelin has carried out extensive testing to come up with what it believes is the optimum tyre inflation pressure for coach operator Travelstar European.

After investing in new 295/80 R 22.5 X MultiWay 3D tyres, Michelin weighed Travelstar's fleet of vehicles in a bid to optimise their performance.

Steve Jones, Michelin technical manager, believed that by increasing the pressure some 15 per cent the tyres could last 19 per cent longer.

The approach seems to be working as director of Travelstar Asan Fazal said that the company is "already noticing a positive change in tyre performance".

Mr Fazal "made the changes after seeing the irregular tyre wear [the company was] experiencing".

Mr Jones explained that Michelin offer a "value added service" by explaining to a company how they can make the most of their investment.

Tyresafe, a leading tyre safety organisation, suggested that having tyres inflated to the correct pressure can reduce fuel bills as well as increasing the life of the tyre and making driving safer and  more environmentally friendly.
