New campaign underlines importance of tyre safety

28th September 2011

A new campaign has been launched in the UK which underlines the importance of tyre safety.

TyreSage, an organisation which aims to raise awareness about the dangers of defective or illegal tyres, has created an online video which highlights the three key aspects of tyre safety – air pressure, condition and tread depth.

Featuring the McIntyres, an animated family of crash test dummies, it shows what warming signs to look out for when inspecting tyres.

Stuart Jackson, chairman of TyreSafe, urged drivers to watch the film as it could help save a number of lives.

"Although the McIntyres have made their debut as part of tyre safety month, drivers need to remember that they should make checks all year round," he said.

"As shown in the film, it only takes a few minutes and can make a dramatic difference to your safety on the road."

UK motorists who are found to be driving with illegal tyres could be subject to a £2,500 fine and three penalty points for each unlawful tyre.
