Pirelli satisfied with 2012 tyre test

Italian tyre manufacturer Pirelli has expressed its satisfaction with the performance of its prototype tyres for next year's Formula One (F1) championships.

This week, the firm gave teams competing at the Young Driver Test event in Abu Dhabi access to a new soft compound as well as a tyre designed to offer more even wear and increased rear grip.

Pirelli's motorsport director Paul Hembery revealed that the firm was able to gain a lot of useful information despite the inexperience of the drivers.

He said: "The results of the test were very much in line with our expectations, so we're pleased with the work that has been carried out, in very demanding track conditions.

"This gives us a useful base to work from as we continue to refine our 2012 range of tyres, which should bring even more performance and spectacle to Formula One next year."

Teams were given six sets of new development tyres to test at the event, as well as two sets of the current P Zero Yellow soft tyre.
