Pirelli Tyres are changing for 2012 F1 Season, says Hembery

formula 13th January 2012

The Pirelli tyres set to be used in the 2012 Formula One Season have undergone major improvements.

That is according to Pirelli motorsport boss Paul Hembery, who revealed some of the changes driving fans can expect from the new tyres.

Speaking at the Autosport International event earlier this week, Mr Hembery explained that the new Pirelli designs have seen major revisions.

"The hard, medium and soft compounds are changing," he said.

"We are making the performance differences between them much closer together and faster as well."

He went on to explain that the profile of the rear tyres had been changed, while the compounds will provide more footprint with the Italian manufacturers anticipating less downforce in 2012.

The comments followed yesterday's (January 13th) announcement that Pirelli would unveil their new Pirelli tyres in just under two weeks.

Until then, Mr Hembery admitted that the tyre makers would be working around the clock to ensure the new compounds are ready for testing, which is set to begin in February.
