Pirelli Tyres UK motorsport manager Carl Naylor has heralded the Dorset and Hampshire Rallye Sunseeker as a fresh start for the British Rally Championship.
The Italian compound manufacturer is supplying some of its new tyres to the two-wheel drive vehicles which are the only cars eligible for points in this year's series.
Driver Mark Donnelly was the star of the show at the opening event in Bournemouth, Dorset, as the Irishman took top spot in an exciting race event.
Racers competing in the event had their driving skills tested to the very limit across the Wareham and Ringwood forest complex, with tyres proving a crucial factor in maintaining grip alongside speed.
Commenting after the race, Mr Naylor was full of optimism for the future of the British Rally Championship.
“Rallye Sunseeker marked a new beginning for the British Rally Championship," he said, noting that the opening event was "more exciting than ever".
"With the added news that Ford have signed up to the manufacturers’ championship, the future of Britain’s premier rally series is looking very positive indeed," he said.
