Spaniard Jaime Alguersuari has been named as the new official Formula One (F1) driver for tyre manufacturer Pirelli.
Alguersuari, who represented Toro Rosso last season, will join last year's sole tyre test driver Lucas di Grassi as they look forward to sharing duties this year.
The driver claimed that the new role is the "best possible" birthday present after he recently celebrated turning 22.
He said: "I can't wait to get started with this very important and challenging job of developing the new tyres for the future, which I'm looking forward to a lot.
"I have a huge desire to get behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car again and return to competition, so this is a brilliant chance for me."
The duo will drive a 2010 Renault R30 car as part of the testing programme, which will take place in Jerez, Spa, Monza and Barcelona.
The tests will play a key role in developing the 2013 range of Pirelli tyres.
