With its second season as official tyre supplier to F1 now concluded, Pirelli is hoping for a swift answer on the question of whether it will be able to continue in its exclusive role beyond 2013.
The Italian manufacturer of car tyres signed a three-year deal with the teams in 2010 and no decision needs to be made on whether to renew the deal until the middle of next year.
However, Pirelli motorsport director Paul Hembery said that more time may be required, due to the number of people involved in the operation and also the major changes in car design planned for 2014, which will likely have a knock-on effect on the tyres.
"If we need to find 300 to 400 people a different job, then we need to know earlier," he said.
"We are starting to talk and finding out what the sport wants. With the cars changing dramatically for 2014 from a tyre manufacturer and producer's point of view, there is so much changing at once."
