Italian tyre manufacturer Pirelli has announced that it will bring an experimental soft tyre compound to the upcoming Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Teams will still receive their allocation of 11 sets of slick tyres over the race weekend but they will also have two extra sets of development tyres to use during the practice session on Friday (11th November).
With the race for the Formula One championship now over, Pirelli is currently trialing the use of various new tyres for next year's season.
"At this point in the season, our emphasis is obviously on refining our tyre choices for next year, which is why we are seeing some new tyres during free practice here and the young driver test," Pirelli's motorsport director Paul Hembery said.
"With very limited opportunities for testing during the season, this is important for us to collect information as we develop our strategy for 2012, which will feature tyres that are a bit different from this year's range."
Mr Hembery added that the company was confident that the tyre choice will suit the characteristics of the Yas Marina circuit.
McLaren star Jenson Button will be looking to continue his recent good run of form at Abu Dhabi as he aims to finish second in the driver standings.
