Pirelli's motorsport director Paul Hembery has confirmed that the Italian firm will try out its harder new tyres at the upcoming British Grand Prix.
Scheduled to begin in just three days' time, the event, which takes place in the familiar motorsport
surroundings of Silverstone, is considered something of a second home for the compound firm.
This is because Pirelli continues to operate many of its motorsport operations from a facility in Didcot which is just an hour from the Northamptonshire circuit.
The presence of this site will allow the firm to test out the new tyres which will offer a harder compound and could debut sometime next season.
Speaking to Crash.net earlier this week, Mr Hembery explained the decision.
"Silverstone is one of the most iconic circuits on the F1 calendar, precisely because it is so demanding for the drivers, cars and tyres," he said.
"This is why we have chosen to test a new experimental hard compound, which we may use in the future, here during free practice."
