Pirelli tyres showcased in opening race of 2013 World Superbike Championship

27th February 2013

The 2013 edition of the FIM World Superbike Championship is underway, with the motorsport's stars being given the opportunity to try out Pirelli's new Diablo Superbike tyres for the first time on a competitive stage.

Riders and their teams have been presented with sets of 17-inch Pirelli Diablo Superbike tyres as they vie to capture the prestigious World Superbike Championship in the months ahead.

Following the conclusion of the opening race of the new season, it soon became clear for all to see that the tyres are proving beneficial for making the motorsport even more exciting.

In fact, the new 17-inch Pirelli Diablo Superbike tyres helped the tournament's riders place significantly better times on the boards at the Phillip Island circuit, in Australia, than what they could achieve last year.

The pairing of Aprilia Racing Team riders Eugene Laverty and Sylvain Guintoli appeared to adapt to the tyres the quickest, with the duo taking turns standing on the first and second step of the podium at the season-opening race last weekend.

Special mention also has to be made for Red Devils Roma competitor Michel Fabrizio, who rode his Aprilia RSV4 Factory bike to third place in Race One and fourth pace in Race Two at Phillip Island.
