Stuart Jackson, the chairman of compound safety group TyreSafe, has called on motorists hitting the road this summer to make checking their tyres a top priority.
The appeal comes as the school holidays edge ever closer, with families across the UK preparing to hit the road for a summer excursion to some wonderful corner of the Great British Isles.
With plenty of cultural and sporting events scheduled for the next few months, they should be spoilt for choice too.
But despite sunny times ahead, the need to carry out various checks on your car before setting off is more important than ever.
And, as Mr Jackson explains, assessing tyres should be the first thing you do before driving in the next few months.
"A lot of people make a checklist before they go on holiday, such as to remind themselves to pack a toothbrush, sun cream and other everyday essentials," he said.
"However, we’d suggest that they put tyre checks at the top of the list so they can enjoy their holiday and arrive safely at their destination, whether it’s just for a day trip or further afield for a longer stay."
The appeal comes after AA figures revealed that the breakdown firm dealt with 57,000 call outs related to problems with tyres last summer.
