The call comes as the Christmas season gets into full swing, with families across the UK set to be driving in difficult conditions over the coming week.
But despite this, a new survey conducted by Allianz has shown that an alarming 27 per cent of drivers do not see the need to carry out safety checks on vehicles at Christmas.
This comes despite the winter months representing arguably the most dangerous time with road accident levels at their peak.
Speaking about the results, Andy James from Allianz Your Cover said: "Basic vehicle maintenance checks are something that every driver should be aware of.
“We urge all drivers to be aware of the appropriate measures that need to be taken during the winter period.”
