Trading Standards to investigate illegal and dangerous part worn tyres sales

6th March 2013

Officers from Trading Standards are to make more of an effort to crackdown on the sale of illegal and dangerous part worn tyres across the UK.

Such a commitment has been announced after TyreSafe hosted a webinar earlier this month, which involved more than 80 attendees being given a thorough insight into the scale of the part-worn problem in Britain.

The basis of the session was that the organisation had recently conducted a mystery shopper investigation that revealed that 98 per cent of the 50 part worn tyres it had purchased had been sold illegally.

More than a third of the products bought were also deemed dangerous if used on the road.

Stuart Jackson, the chairman of TyreSafe, stated that it is “fantastic” that the issue of illegal and dangerous part-worn tyres has now caught the attention of a huge number of Trading Standards officers.

He went on: “The webinar acted as a great way for us to provide some ideas and assistance which we hope will see a significant improvement in the standards of part worn tyres being sold."
