More than two-thirds of fleet operators in the UK are unaware of upcoming tyre labelling regulations, according to new research.
A study conducted by Fleet News and sponsored by Michelin has revealed that 69 per cent of the 281 fleet operators surveyed did not know that tyres on sale from November 2012 will have to display a label showing ratings for fuel efficiency, wet grip and external noise.
Furthermore, just over two-fifths of survey respondents who were aware of the labelling scheme were not able to name the different categories which would be rated.
The regulations, introduced by the European Union (EU), will see fuel efficiency and wet grip rated from A to G, while noise rankings will be given in decibels.
Every tyre on retail in the EU will need to meet minimum standards before they can be eligible for a ranking. Tyre manufacturers themselves will be required to test the standards of their products while following EU guidelines.
