The majority of Brits are not planning to purchase cold weather tyres for the upcoming winter months, according to new research.
A survey conducted on behalf of Manheim Auctions by online research firm One Poll revealed that 95.5 per cent of UK motorists will not purchase winter tyres this year.
Respondents cited cost as the main reason for not fitting winter tyres, with 41 per cent claiming that they could not afford them, while 16 per cent admitted that they do not know what winter tyres are.
"Winter tyres are an investment in safety. They will help to keep you on the move and on the road, reduce the risk of accidents and can be used over several winters," said Craig Mailey, marketing director at Manheim Auctions.
"The fact that 16 per cent don't really know what winter tyres are suggests that calling them cold weather tyres would be more helpful."
The study also revealed that 92 per cent of respondents do adapt their driving style in snowy conditions.
