Winter tyres make weather less daunting, says Pirelli chief

If more UK drivers fitted winter tyres during the cold weather months the prospects of driving in snow and ice would be far less daunting, according to Pirelli.

Dominic Sandivasci, managing director of Pirelli UK, highlighted the importance of choosing the correct type of tyres during the cold winter snap.

“When winter weather embraces the UK, we are often left wondering why everything comes to a standstill, but it’s mainly down to a lack of preparation," he said.

"If we all fitted cold weather tyres during the winter months, it’s fair to say that we may not find driving in cold weather conditions, or snow and ice, quite so daunting.”

The comments come after Pirelli revealed it would be providing winter tyres for the Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy in a bid to profile the benefits of these compounds to learner drivers.

Pirelli hope that the new tyres will promote safety and help drivers to gain more of an understanding of the important safety considerations you should make when driving in winter.

These winter tyres are designed to remain softer under temperatures of seven degrees centigrade, ensuring better grip and handling on UK roads.
