UK motorists should begin preparing for icy road conditions now, according to the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM).
Simon Elstow, driver training specialist at the IAM's Drive and Survive division, urged drivers to get ready for winter driving conditions now to ensure they are not caught out like many Brits were last year.
He said: "We all need to respect the weather and make adjustments to deal with it. Being mentally prepared as well as having the right equipment is vital, so think about last year, what problems it caused you, and what you need to do to overcome them if
they come this year."
Mr Elstow offered a number of tips to motorists this winter, with UK consumers advised to bring a de-icer and scraper with them at all times to keep their windows clear. Air conditioning systems are also able to demist a vehicle.
Icy conditions can also increase stopping distances by up to ten times so Britons should regularly test their brakes and leave more distance than usual between their car and the vehicle in front.
