Barlow fulfils promise to “Take That” Bentley to auction winners

11th May 2012

X Factor judge and Take That songwriter Gary Barlow has hit the headlines after delivering a Bentley Continental GTC to one lucky auction-winning couple.

The car had previously starred as part of the BBC-backed fundraising night Children in Need back in November, with the automobile auctioned for charity on the day.

With all the money raised in the sale going to good causes, Barlow decided to step forward and promise to hand the car over in person in a bid to quite literally up the stakes.

The pledge paid off too, with couple Brendan and Barbara Ainscough winning the vehicle with a sensational bid of £240,000. Speaking after the sale, the couple admitted that it was the chance of meeting Barlow, who has been a regular fixture on Saturday night television with the X Factor, that proved too good to turn down.

Sure enough, the Take That man lived up to his commitment, meeting the Ainscoughs at Bentley’s factory in Crewe this week, where he handed over the keys.

Congratulating them on their winning bid, Gary Barlow said: “I’m delighted to present Mr and Mrs Ainscough with the keys to their new GTC.

“We all had high hopes that the Bentley would raise a significant amount of money for BBC Children in Need, but their generous bid exceeded all expectations.”

As an additional touch, Barlow and Children in Need alumni Sir Terry Wogan and Fearne Cotton have also signed the airbag panel of the car.
