Throw-in specialist Aron Gunnarsson has revealed how he developed his exceptional ability for launching the ball into the box – regular practice with tyres.
Speaking to Wales Online, the Cardiff City right-back, who joined the club from Coventry City last summer, admitted he used to practice throwing tyres as a youngster.
"I’ve been chucking the ball into the box since I’ve been about 13," he said.
“I used to play handball when I was younger and that’s the reason why I have the long throw. I used to throw tyres when I was younger."
This season has proven an eventful one for the 22-year-old, with Cardiff City narrowly missing out on glory in the Carling Cup final against Liverpool, after losing on penalties.
Gunnarson may want to begin practicing on the tyres again soon, as Cardiff City continue their bid for promotion to the Premier League.
With 14 league games remaining the Bluebirds are sat in the playoff positions, and with a realistic chance of reaching the top flight, the star could soon be needing new tyres for his car, given the amount of travelling required over the average Premier League campaign.
