A Lithuanian artist has been crowned the winner of the 2012 Dunlop Art Car Competition, with the newly designed car set to race at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Egidijus Guzauskas beat off strong competition from artists based in France, Germany and Belgium to claim the award for his special paint-splash effect design.
Entrants were tasked with providing a new look for the Dunlop tyres endorses JMW Motorsport Ferrari F458 GT2 car which is set for its debut race at this year’s Le Mans event.
A total of 175 artists took part, with the public invited to vote for their favourite on the Dunlop Art Car website. Once the four best looks were chosen, it was up to a select panel of Dunlop tyres representatives to choose the winner, with the group plumping for Guzauskas’ look.
Sanjay Khanna, Goodyear Dunlop managing director and competition judge told Tyrepress: “The jury feel that Egidijus’ entry is a worthy winner because it maintains the Dunlop brand by use of colour while bringing in an artistic element with the tyre tread and paint splashes.”
Entitled “Speed Rhythm” the artist has created an image that interprets the Dunlop tyres, speed, contrast with the art and paint of the piece and the car’s yellow bodywork.
So far the image has been seen by some 200,000 spectators, but many more will soon be able to see it at the special race day in France next month.
