What you should know
If the front of your car dips when braking, is swayed by side winds or feels like it is handling poorly, you could have faulty shock absorbers. For peace of mind arrange to take your vehicle to your local ATS Euromaster Service Centre for a shock absorber check as part of our free Vehicle Health Check.
Worn shock absorbers:
- Increase braking distances because the tyre loses its optimum grip
- Can cause travel sickness and driving fatigue
- Often go unnoticed as they wear out gradually - the driver unknowingly adjusts their driving style to compensate
- Cause aquaplannung in wet driving conditions as they will not keep the tyre firmly on the road surface and the water underneath the tyre tread forces it to lose contact with the road
Shock absorbers need to be checked on a regular basis, they:
- Are a safety critical item that provides better road holding
- Keep the tyre on the road, ensuring maximum safety and grip at all times
- Should be fitted in pairs to retain vehicle stability
