What is COP21?

COP21 is the 21st Conference of the Parties at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The Convention will take place in Paris, France from November 30th to December 11th 2015.

COP21 will be a crucial Conference, as it has an objective to achieve a new international agreement on climate, applicable to all countries, with an ultimate objective to keep global warming below 2°C.

Michelin is an official partner of COP21. Michelin are determined to contribute in reducing CO₂ emissions over the coming decades. Michelin have been resolutely pursuing a sustainable development strategy for almost 15 years. The Michelin Group is aware that raw material and energy sources are not unlimited. 

Michelin have identified two key levers; 1. The tyre product, 2. The production factory, and outlined clear ambitions;

  1. By 2030, all tyres Michelin sell will consume 20% less energy than they do in 2010.
  2. A 47% reduction in CO₂ emissions across its global sites by 2030*.
    * Compared to 2010.

How Are Michelin Contribution To COP21?

In 1992, Michelin launched the first fuel-saving mass produced tyre, the ‘Green Tyre’. The tyre has been developed into its 6th generation. The Group continues its efforts to ensure that Michelin tyres consume less energy, and so help to reduce CO emissions. By 2030, all tyres Michelin sell will consume 20% less energy than they did in 2010.  

In the future, all of the Michelin production plants will also be more energy efficient. The Group is currently accelerating the deployment of more energy efficient equipment and use of clean energy. Michelin have a clear ambition to reduce CO emissions by 47% across its global sites by 2030*.
