Homologated tyres are those that have been approved directly via a manufacturer. These tyres are ones that have met the standards and regulatory requirements of the manufacturer.
4.8 /5 (13)
The energy lost when a tyre is in motion is known as 'rolling resistance'. This has a direct impact on fuel consumption. A tyre's rolling resistance score ranges from A to G. Over the life of the tyre, fitting an A rated tyre could save you up to 6 litres of fuel when compared to a G rated tyre.
A tyre's wet grip capacity is expressed in Grades from A to G. The difference in braking distances between each grade is roughly 3m - an average car length. This makes average stopping distance between an A and G rated tyre 18m. That's 4 car lengths.
The exterior noise grade of a tyre is expressed in decibels - accompanied by one, two or three sound waves, with one wave being the best noise level performance. To achieve the best grade, a tyre’s noise level must be at least 3dB under the legal limit set by the EU.
Tyre labelling changes will be taking place from the 1st May 2021 in Europe, including in Northern Ireland. To find out more about these changes, click here.
Benefits
Excellent performance on wet
The Sport BluResponse uses a polymer compound to give you better grip and handling on wet roads. Large central grooves in the tread evacuate water quickly, reducing the risk of aquaplaning.
Shorter braking
Dunlop's innovative Short Braking blocks reduce braking distances on wet and dry roads. Designed for high performance driving, these extra-stiff blocks increase road contact under braking force.
Fuel-saving design
The Sport BluResponse employs an aerodynamic shape and low-heat compound to reduce rolling resistance by 30% compared to its predecessor*.
Lower noise
Closed shoulder grooves suppress noise emission, for a quieter and more comfortable ride.
Technology
Asymmetric Tread Design: provides improved handling and aquaplaning resistance. The continuous center rib increases stability and precision. The asymmetric groove arrangement enhances grip on wet and dry surfaces.
Benefits
Improved performance on straight lines and around corners; increased resistance to aquaplaning.
Flatter Tread Profile: a bigger contact patch delivers more stability and enhanced road feedback, allowing tires to respond quickly and precisely.
Benefits
Increased stability and steering precision; reduced heel and toe wear; excellent cornering stability and precision; superior dry grip.
Multi Radius Tread: MRT designs employ ten different radii and are therefore more precise. This results in highly effective pressure deployment on the road contact patch. The effect is smoother transitions from straight to corner, leading to more precise and progressive reactions.
Benefits
Significantly better control over the evolution of the footprint in all driving conditions; responsive wet and dry handling; increased cornering control.
Specific Bead Seat System: strengthens the link between tyre and rim for a more precise driving experience. Like the grip between your hand and the steering wheel, the Specific Bead Seat System enhances control and conveys outstanding road feedback.
Benefits
Enhanced road feedback; greater stability and precision.
Variable Land to Sea Ratio: asymmetric tread design with a variable land to sea ratio delivers high levels of aquaplaning resistance. The massive outer shoulder block ensures rapid and turbulence free water drainage, while also ensuring outstanding cornering stability.
Benefits
High aquaplaning resistance; increased road contact; enhanced cornering stability and steering precision.
Maximum Flange Shield: a rim flange protection system. MFS employs a profile of rubber that runs around the circumference of the tyre above the wheel flange. This creates a protective buffer zone.
Benefits
Protects expensive alloy wheels from kerbing.
Jointless Belt: a Hybrid Overlay Technology that reduces circumferential deformations at high speeds.
Benefits
Superior high speed stability; smooth and even wear.
