Air Conditioning Anti-Bacterial Cleaning Service at ATS Euromaster
Air conditioning units are prone to accumulating bacteria through everyday use, as well as after long periods without use.
The first sign you might notice of this is a persistent smell coming from your air conditioning system, which can be common for air cons that have not been used for a while. In some cases, this smell might go after a short period of having run the system. However, in some cases, this bacteria build-up will need to be cleaned from the system, which is why we offer our anti-bacterial AC cleaner service.
An air conditioning anti-bacterial clean can remove bacteria from the system and help prevent its future build-up for a period of time, bringing back the crisp, cool air that should be coming out from your vents.
Why do I need an anti-bacterial clean for my air conditioning?
Bacteria can build up in the air conditioning system over time if it goes unused for a period of time. This is common for a lot of motorists who do not get the most from their air conditioning over the winter. Often, this means that, when the air conditioning is used for the first time again in the spring or summer, it comes with a musty or unpleasant smell.
Cleaning the AC in your car will remove any strange odours and ensure the air conditioning system smells much fresher, so you can enjoy crisp and cooling air all year round.
Keep your car in good condition all year round with our Car Maintenance tips.
How does antibacterial clean work?
Your car’s air conditioning system creates a damp environment where bacteria and mould can easily grow. When moisture builds up on the evaporator, it becomes a breeding ground for unpleasant smells and potential allergens, which can impact the air quality inside your vehicle.
Our antibacterial clean gets straight to the source. We apply a targeted treatment into the air vents that circulates throughout the system and reaches deep into the ducts and across the evaporator. This helps neutralise bacteria, fungi and other unwanted microbes that settle over time.
The service takes around 15 to 30 minutes and requires no interior disassembly. Once complete, you’ll enjoy noticeably fresher air and a cleaner, more comfortable driving environment.
What causes bad smells in car air conditioning systems?
If you’ve ever turned on your car’s air conditioning and noticed a damp or musty smell, you’re not alone. This is one of the most common signs that bacteria or mould may be present in the system.
The smell usually comes from the evaporator, a component inside your vehicle’s ventilation system. As air passes over it to cool down, moisture can collect and linger — creating the perfect conditions for microbial growth. Over time, this build-up can lead to unpleasant odours being circulated into the cabin whenever the air con is in use.
- Other contributing factors can include:
- Dust and pollen trapped in the filters or vents
- Driving in humid or wet conditions
Leaving the air conditioning off for long periods, which limits airflow through the system
While regular use of your air con can help keep air moving, it doesn’t fully prevent these issues. That’s why treatments like antibacterial cleaning are recommended from time to time, not just to improve air quality, but to reduce the build-up that leads to these smells in the first place.
