Do winter tyres make a difference on a BMW?

Yes, winter tyres make a big difference when it comes to increasing grip and control in winter conditions. Fitting your BMW with winter tyres reduces the risk of serious accidents and expensive repairs when driving in cold weather.

BMW winter wheels and snow tyres don't only make a difference in snowy weather, but also improve overall safety in rain, ice, sleet, and freezing conditions. Read our blogs to learn more winter driving tips and how to drive in snow safely.

How long do BMW winter tyres last?

If you use BMW winter tyres only in winter, you can expect them to have an average lifespan of around five years. Using winter tyres all year round will cause them to deteriorate quicker, as they are softer than all-season tyres and wear down faster in hot weather.

Can I use my BMW winter tyres in summer?

Yes, you can use your BMW winter tyres in summer, though this is not advised. Winter tyres are made of softer rubber, which will wear more quickly in hot weather, reducing the lifespan of your BMW's winter wheels. Because of this, it is a good idea to switch to regular car tyres or all-season tyres when temperatures begin rising again; usually around late March when temperatures rise above 7°C.

Can BMW winter tyres be repaired?

Yes, just like regular car tyres, BMW winter tyres can be repaired. Minor punctures can be repaired with a repair kit, but for more serious damage we recommend you get your BMW winter wheels repaired or replaced at a garage.

You can visit your local ATS centre for tyre repair near you, or read our blog to find out more about repaired tyres and when you may need a replacement.

Do I need BMW winter tyres on all four wheels?

Fitting BMW winter tyres on all four wheels will give you the best results for improved traction and better performance on snow and ice. With BMW winter tyres on only two wheels, you will have reduced and uneven grip, and therefore a higher chance of losing control of your car.

If you live or frequently drive in an area particularly prone to snow and ice, ensuring you fit winter tyres on all four of your wheels is even more important. Read our blog for more winter driving tips.
