Recommended tyres for hybrid vehicles

Given that Hybrid and Electric vehicles are relatively recent additions to the automotive world, it's advisable to replace your tyres with the same type that was originally fitted to your vehicle, also known as Original Equipment (OE) tyres.

These tyres are specifically designed for your vehicle and are likely to offer several advantages such as improved fuel efficiency (resulting in less money spent on fuel), enhanced handling, and safer braking. OE tyres are identifiable by markings on the tyre sidewall that are specific to each vehicle manufacturer. Below are some of the best tyres you can get for hybrid cars.

Hybrid Car Tyre FAQs

Do hybrid cars have special tyres?

As you might expect, the weight of a vehicle increases significantly when it includes a sizeable battery pack, an electric motor, an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE), a fuel tank, and all the necessary components to operate it.

The greater the weight of a vehicle, the more strain its tyres have to endure. This is because the tyres of a heavier vehicle not only need to bear more weight while stationary (to prevent them from bursting under normal load), but the tread also needs to exert more effort to halt the car once it's in motion.

Typically, Electric Vehicles (EVs) are 20-30% heavier than their ICE counterparts. This translates to a need for at least 30% more load-bearing capacity and rolling resistance.

Do hybrid cars wear tyres faster?

No, a hybrid car will typically wear down tyres the same as its petrol and diesel counterparts will. The lifespan of hybrid tyres can vary greatly depending on several factors such as the tyre brand, driving conditions, driving style, and maintenance habits.

However, on average, hybrid tyres can last anywhere from 30,000 to 60,000 miles. Regular tyre rotations, maintaining proper tyre pressure, and ensuring your vehicle's alignment is correct can all help to extend the lifespan of your tyres. It's always a good idea to regularly check your tyres for signs of wear and replace them when necessary to ensure optimal performance and safety.
