A winter tyre has to maintain its flexibility, even when temperatures are at their lowest. Bridgestone’s own “Nano Pro-Tech” compound is now present in all the manufacturer’s tyres, providing the necessary flexibility to guarantee vehicle driveability in the snow and over ice. By focusing on driver expectations, Bridgestone’s teams have perfectly responded to the problems inherent in driving during the winter season. Its innovative tread combines two different kinds of sipes: 2D sipes (for “2 directions”) in the middle of the tread, and 3D sipes (for “3 directions”) on the tyre’s shoulder blocks, which improve gripping capabilities and allow for a significant reduction in stopping distances. The other important criteria for the consumer, aside from good performance over snow, is the feeling of total safety over wet roads. Upon the manufacturer’s request, the independent agency TÜV SÜD has carried out testing in order to compare this tyre to its competitors: the Continental WinterContact TS860, Michelin Alpin 6, Goodyear UltraGrip 9, and Pirelli Cinturato Winter. The results of this test have awarded the Blizzak LM005 a second place in braking over ice, as well as driveability and braking over snow, and first place in terms of lateral grip (for cornering) over wet ground and braking on dry surfaces. That’s enough to allay any doubts that may remain about this tyre’s exceptional capabilities.
