The South Korean brand Hankook has cooked up a new tyre model for compact vehicles such as SUVs. The manufacturer’s famous “Ventus” line is being extended with the resolutely sporty Ventus S1 Evo 3 summer UHP (Ultra High Performance) tyre.
As usual, Hankook has developed this 3rd generation of “Ventus S1 evo” tyres by listening to its customers, whose primary concerns related to safety, and more specifically grip over wet surfaces and precise handling. In order to increase its wet road performance, this latest sporty model is equipped with a system of interlinked grooves. There are 2 types of grooves on the tyre tread: straight grooves and so-called locking grooves. The combination of these 2 types of grooves, along with 4 longitudinal channels, increases grip over wet ground and reduces the risk of aquaplaning. Its innovative “Aqua Pine” composite, incorporating resin and vegetable oils, reinforces the tyre tread. This rigidity provides the tyre with a higher resistance to warping at high speeds, which directly influences vehicle stability. The precise handling provided by its asymmetrical tread is amplified by the tyre blocks’ very stiff ribs. The tyre is equipped with a hybrid aramid fibre-based brace belt to respond to the demands produced by start-up accelerations. This composite allows for maintaining stability even in tight corners, and it provides highly responsive steering. The highly rugged Hankook S1 Evo 3 K127 has steel belts that confer remarkable durability to the tyre. Its roll resistance has also been improved thanks to the rubber compounds used as well as their high silica content.
